Illegal in all parts of space, not because of what they are but because of what happens to races that use androids, one race humanity has such an intense hatred for androids that when any other civilization creates an android they consider it an act of war.
Intact examples[]
The only known intact example is an android T-5J7 it is publicly displayed in a museum on earth, the oid is in fact alive but kept in a soundproof glass chamber, it can be seen sometimes trying to talk with passerby, strangely its mostly inert steel face seems to hold much sadness.
